How to Enjoy Cannabis in Michigan
While medical marijuana has been legal in Michigan since 2008, it was only in December of 2019 that state-licensed sales of recreational cannabis began. Cannabis laws vary by state, and as always, it is your responsibility to stay up-to-date with the latest regulations. - You must be 21 or older to purchase cannabis.
- Public consumption or driving under the influence is a big no-no. It is illegal and can result in fines or even jail time.
- Cannabis may not leave the state under any condition.
- It is illegal to bring cannabis to the airport (CBD is allowed if it contains no more than .3% THC).
- Transporting marijuana in your vehicle is legal if the products are in a sealed and labeled package in the trunk of the car. Violations of this law can incur up to a $250 fee.
- Adults may gift another adult up to 2.5 oz of marijuana if it is not promoted to the public.
Michigan Recreational Cannabis Possession Limits:
- Up to 2.5 ounces away from home
- Up to 10 ounces at home
- No more than 15 grams of cannabis concentrates
- Up to 12 cannabis plants
Michigan Medical Marijuana Equivalents:
- 16 ounces of marijuana-infused products in solid form
- 7 grams of marijuana-infused product in gaseous form
- 36 fluid ounces of marijuana-infused product in liquid form
