The Difference Between THC and CBD

Feb 24, 2021

From an outsider’s point of view, THC and CBD might seem a lot alike. They both come from cannabis, and both are known for their healing properties. So just what is the difference between these two compounds? Read more to find out.

Intoxication Differences
The main difference is that THC is intoxicating, while CBD is not. THC is what causes the “high” marijuana is famous for.

CBD actually even blocks some of the intoxicating effects of THC. It attaches to cannabinoid receptors which prevent the THC from activating them. This is a great solution for people who do not enjoy the psychoactive effects of THC.

Cannabis plants with smaller amounts of CBD create a stronger high while plants with a higher CBD to THC ratio create a weaker high.

Legal Differences
The legal differences between the two are also vast. The Farm Bill that passed in December 2018 allowed hemp to become a legal agricultural commodity nationwide. However, not all CBD products are legal in every state so it’s important to buy from a trusted source like NOBO. For example, strains that have a high CBD:THC ratio are only allowed in states with legal cannabis markets.

Medical Differences
Medicinally, CBD has yet to have undergone several studies and the data is limited. However,  both compounds are widely used to manage many symptoms. A lot of them overlap but here are some common uses for each specific compound.
